Workshop “AI (tools) in academia”

DATES: June 12, 19, & 26, 2026

LANGUAGE: English

DURATION: 8.30-10.30

LOCATION: Online

Abstract
The online workshop series will cover three topics:

  1. Discovering and prioritising scientific publications (Tools: Litmaps, Consensus, SciSpace, Scite, Sourcely)

This workshop presents one of the most profound changes for academic discovery, since Google Scholar: Semantic search with AI. The "AI Search Loop",  combines traditional literature search methods like Google Scholar and reference searches with novel AI-based semantic searches. We will also discover how AI tools can help prioritise papers to focus on relevant literature.

  2. Ethical use of AI in academic writing (Tools: CustomGPTs, Gemini integration in Google Docs, PaperPal, Jenni)

This workshop presents a workflow on how you can retain full control of the narrative yet outsource the tedium of writing to AI without losing your unique voice. Additionally, we will dive into a few tools that combine reference management, AI-assisted writing and conversational AI to speed up the writing and publication process.

  3. Research gap strategies (Tools: DrawIO, Litmaps & Obsidian)

This workshop outlines how visual mind mapping and digital note-taking can help discover research gaps in our domain and how to use modern tools to spot missing references.
